Amazon to Uber, good?
If I join Uber, will it be easy to go back to FNG? 4yoe all at FANG. Is it considered a downgrade? Uber offer TC: 295k, Seattle
I have been working intensively with Uber engineers and they are awesome. We are, in general, over hyping the FANG or GAMFA and it's sickening. There are some pretty cool companies out there doing great work and offering sweet TCs and I think Uber is one of them. I don't look at that transition as a downgrade esp if you will be working on projects that will help you gain new skills. 295 TC for Seattle with 4 YOE? Go for it . Good luck.

Well putting U in the same level as F makes believe you're very biased.
I went from Amazon to Uber, and get pings from FANG all of the time. The quality of engineers vary at Uber in comparison to Amazon, but I have been happier at Uber. The WLB is much better than Amazon, but sometimes I miss the sense of urgency from Amazon. At Uber, we sometimes get stuck in analysis paralysis.
Thanks, this helps. I've been at 2 teams at Amazon and WLB has been great. I really don't get paged (I think like twice a year!). The work load in general is also low, so WLB is really not a problem for me. How about the refreshers at Uber? Because you know Amazon doesn't have any.
That was the reason I left Amazon, because of the 4 year cliff. I got my first set of refreshers and I have been happy. We also have yearly bonuses, which Amazon doesn’t have. Comp overall is better at Uber.
I think you’ll have more opportunity to work on interesting projects and push yourself. It depends on you what you make of it. Yes, you’ll get pings from recruiters.
People, I see a lot of emphasis on TC with less so on career longevity and future prospects. These should be as equally important factors as TC and the brand value of the company you plan to join. Any thoughts or am I just high on vitamin water and I should focus more on TC?
I mean if I learn something technical it's mostly for the sake of getting higher TC.
