https://www.businessinsider.com/amazon-voluntary-resignation-employees-relocate-rto-2023-7 "Amazon employees who refuse to relocate near their teams' "hub" offices will either have to find a new job internally or leave the company through a "voluntary resignation." Amazon started enforcing its so-called "return-to-hub" policy in recent weeks, according to an internal email and Slack messages obtained by Insider. Hubs are the central locations assigned to each individual team — employees will have to work out of those hubs instead of any office nearest to their current city. One manager declared hubs in Seattle, New York, Houston, and Austin, Texas, for their team, according to one Slack message. It said those who refuse to relocate to one of those hubs will either have to transfer to a new team or they will be considered a "voluntary resignation." The move is part of Amazon's effort to encourage more in-person work."
They will pip you after u relocate. Make the decision now before u move
Exactly
Sounds like a constructive dismissal to me, not a voluntary resignation
You must involuntarily volunteer to resign! -big bwoi Andy Jwassy
Sssh if they call it this maybe it won't occur to employees to file for unemployment and their insurance rates won't go up
Amazon treating its employees poorly? Say whaaaaaat?
Affirmative action
? Cisco must be watching Fox News
They will get sued
By who? At will employment and no protected rights are violated by telling users to relocate or find a closer team
It sound like what they’re trying to do is avoid paying unemployment insurance. Yes employment is at will, so they can fire you, but I don’t think they can force you to “voluntarily” leave.
Puts on Amazon, oof.
It sucks but Amazon indiscriminately hired too many people in the boom of 2021-22. We now have almost every team with members spread geographically across different states and timezones. Amazon is finding new ways to lower headcount and guessing what would work best in the long term with the remaining set of people. The top leadership has decided that colocated team members in-office 3 days a week would be ideal. I won’t be surprised if they move to 5 days RTO once the dust settles on this one. More and more involuntary attrition.
Senior leaders and high tier employees still will be allowed to WFH. I am related to one and he was remote prior to COVID and still is. If you are very successful at Amazon it is no secret that you can choose your own work schedule.
Only true for L7+ high performers
I don’t think that’s how voluntary works. Is this some legal magic and verbal gymnastics?
Yes it's a lil sus It's common for contracts to include a "failure to report" for longer than X days as a voluntary resignation, so maybe they're trying to leverage that in some novel way by changing the definition of "report".
They can't just move your workplace across the country overnight and then decide you resigned because you don't show up. That's not how any of this works.
Loool he looks like that
If they’re giving severance then sign me up. Already searching externally as we speak lol
Pretty sure they're doing this to avoid paying severance
Zero severance
