Hello Does anyone know about the work culture and on call culture in amazon transportation team? Any red flags that one needs to be aware of?
More details please
You need to be more specific about “transportation”. There are first mile, middle mile, last mile, amazon air, and so forth, and they are all related to transportation. In general they have a lot of legacy services/code bases and operational burden is high.
What team in transportation? Last mile?
Middle mile
Middle mile is slightly better than Last mile, but overall transportation sucks. I uses to be at MS as well, moved to Last Mile last year and switched teams within 7 months. The main problem across all of transportation is that its a cost center (emphasis is on cutting cost as much as possible) this translates to resource crunch, poor short term project execution and high on call load. These systems feel like a patchwork with very low tech bar. Overall, the situation is pretty grim across. I would suggest asking these questions to your HM - What's the current tt count? Above 50 is a bad sign! - What's the usual on call load? - How many Seniors and PE'S in the org? A high number indicates a mature and technically capable org! If the answers are not optimal, ask your recruiter that you want to be matched to a different team.
Thanks for your reply. Sent you a message. Hope you can respond.
