Hi everyone, I’m trying to decide which one can helps my career progression the most, especially I want to attempt at trading firm for new grad season again (yeah no luck so far). Amazon: Pros: - Bigger brand name? I’m not sure how is Dropbox rn so here’s the poll - More stable - Higher pay for internship (over at least $15/hour) Cons: - Sunnyvale (heard mostly Lab126 with also bad reviews) - Bad culture? Seems like only 2/10 people I know enjoyed their time there Dropbox: Pros: - Nice culture + wlb + all remote - Higher pay for new grad pre nego - Some teams are fun, using Rust (which I want to explore) Cons: - Lesser pay for intern - Pass their prime time - Seems like good people are leaving (heard from Blind) - Profitable but may be not stable :-? I also have Snap and another startup which IPO’ed last year (think Asana, Confluent, or Roblox) on resume. My goal is: 1) to maximize the chance to pass resume screening at trading firm such as Jane Street, Jump Trading, and some other firms because I want to get into trading but no luck so far 2) if (1) doesn’t work out, at least I’m not screwed in new grad recruiting season TC: 🥜 Thank you! #engineering #software #swe #internship
It's an internship. Get the big name on your resume and open other doors
I agree, it’s just that does Amazon will help me a lot, considering I already have Snap or have Dropbox?
DBX is both profitable and stable. I’d say the same about AMZ compared to any growth-focused business right now though. Can’t say on what would be more helpful for trading firms, as that’s what I want to pursue too. However, I did have recruiters for Two Sigma reach out. They’re bottom barrel but it’s a starting point I suppose, lol.
Did you leave or do you still stay at Dropbox, and if you don’t mind me asking, why?
I’m still at DBX. For what I want right now, it has the right mix of TC, WLB, skill development, good management, and upward mobility (I’m not in one of the “stagnant” orgs you usually hear about). One of those things will have to change significantly, or a great opportunity come up, for me to want to leave.
To be honest if you had no luck so far with snap on your resume for hft intern recruiting then there isnt much you can do to improve your chances for new grad recruiting unless you can get an akuna+ level firm on your resume right now. Getting an intern interview for the top hft firms is a decent amount easier than getting a new grad interview. If gpa is < 3.8 right now then that is something you can improve on though Id go dropbox here. Better reputation and higher engineering bar than all of faang. Everyone and their mom has received an amzn internship offer these days so its really not too helpful anymore
Thank you so much! I have a 3.5 GPA + go to a state school. So I’m trying to compensate for that from these internship experiences. Hopefully it will work out :) it just seems like no one is going to take a chance on me :)
Yeah thats unfortunate. State school is fine but the combination of only 3.5 and non prestigious school will put you out of the running for the top hft firms including maybe even citadel Take dropbox or continue recruiting for top unicorns. They’re just as good for career trajectory as hft if you play your cards right
Would go DBX 100%. Money doesn’t matter for an internship, and Dropbox pays incredibly well for full time employees. IMO Dropbox is a better brand name because people tend to negatively associate with Amazon due to their culture. The average level of talent will be higher there too
Thank you!
Doesn’t really matter. Anywhere vaguely notable that helps you learn c++ is the way into our hearts. Also, reach out to a recruiter on LinkedIn or something. We get so many apps through the website, it can be tough if you aren’t at a top CS school/working at a competitor.
I couldn’t find much information of any internship to improve c++ :( I saw there are Go and Rust, do you think this would help my case?
Moreover is it possible that I can you my resume for some feedbacks?
+1 on Dropbox. Everyone and their mother is getting an Amazon offer, plus a lot of my Amazon friends have been asking for Dropbox referrals, so that’s an extra data point.
Either one is ok. More importantly give it 100% in internship. Don’t worry about technologies, I cannot count how many technologies and languages I went through over the years. You don’t always get to work on your first prefs anyway and any large tech company has legacy stuff that one needs to spend 30-70% time on

Not sure what you heard about Amazon intern pay, I posted this question and they said it was $48 an hour
Though I’m assuming you’re saying it’s 15$/hr more than drop
