Hi Blind Community! I'm trying to pick between some companies and I would love some input. Here's some context: I'm from a MCOL area, went to a school that you pry never heard of, and worked at non-tech companies that you pry never heard of. I'm attempting to getting into the tech industry and I'm very excited. This is my first step! I know that these companies are not "ideal" companies by Blind standard, but its a start and I'm willing to work hard and grow from there. I'm married but no kids, so I'm willing to sacrifice some WLB for growth but not as much as a single person is able to. 1. Amazon I know Amazon doesn't have a good reputation in Blind, but seems like it is still a well known big tech company with only a few gets the chance to work for them (but I do plan to stick around in the tech industry). I heard WLB in Amazon is bad, but the specific team is HR related (Talent Product Team) and interviewers said WLB is on the better end of the spectrum. I also feel insecure about PIP. I regard myself to be smart: 4.0 in CS degree and did very well for all my current and past jobs, but that could all just be "big fish small pond" affect. The position uses language and tech that I have never touched before, which is a plus for growth but also risk for getting PIPed since they expect me to learn fast. Also I heard Amazon could look good on my resume (given my context), but also heard from Blind that I SHOULD NOT work for Amazon for more than 1-2 years otherwise it looks bad to other tech companies as they worry you would bring over the bad culture. Joining a company already knowing that I shouldn't stick around for long isn't exactly motivating. Also HM has been with Amazon for a long time, not sure if that's a good thing or bad thing. 2. GoPuff Pro: It's a remote job and I like work from home. They have good profitable business model and they might go IPO this year so the stock might go up. I enjoyed talking to all interviewers and have had better interviewing experience than other companies. Con: GoPuff is growing, so work might be busy but not sure. Also someone from Blind says GoPuff is hiring Amazon leaders so I don't want to reject Amazon only work for a culture that will grow into Amazon. 3. Uber (Marketplace) Pro: The work sounds the most interesting to me. Con: Their business model is still questionable and not sure how much value the stock will hold. Also heard Uber WLB is bad plus their layoffs. Interviewer said WLB is ok tho. TC: 108k YOE: 3 Update for TC: Amazon and GoPuff both offered around $180 TC. I’m actually still at on-site stage with Uber. But I want to include Uber now because Amazon and GoPuff are just waiting for me (to complete Uber on-site) and I doubt I will have much time to get votes and comments from you guys after (if) I get an offer from Uber, as it’s cutting close to the Amazon deadline. Based on Levels.fyi salary for Uber I’m expecting around the same range for TC. #software #swe #engineering #amazon #gopuff #uber #offer #wlb #stock
My experience with WLB at Uber has been good. I think it depends on the team, not sure about Marketplace teams.
Take the highest paying offer between gopuff and uber. Don’t join Amazon. ‘Only a few get a chance to work for Amazon’- not true. Amazon is infosys/tcs of America. Subpar talent than other companies and still so much noise
^ this
Gopuff for the upside. If they win the delivery wars (leading 1st party company), it could be huge. Everyone else is trying to copy them now
OFFER TC or GTFO
