Amazon Seattle SWE 116.1K salary 37K first yr sign on 23K second yr sign on 86K rsu (5/15/40/40) 7K relocation TC without stock growth or refreshers: 164.4/152/150.5/150.5 Optiver Chicago Data Science 105K salary 10k sign on 15k first year bonus (prorated) then switch to marble system (profit sharing) at start of calendar year 5k relocation TC 135k Interned at Amazon and did not enjoy the work as much as I enjoy Data Science. Interested in trading industry but worried about comp at Optiver and the growth of it. Also, anyone know how much these companies PIP #offer #tech

135k in Chicago is huge you do know that right? With COL factored in it’s pretty solid compared to the west coast. At a company like Optiver I don’t think you’ll need to worry about comp year 2 onward

Amazon SRyV42 OP Oct 16, 2020

could you elaborate on comp after year 2? do you have any details?

Cisco silverst Oct 16, 2020

I don’t have any details sorry. What I would offer is that DS at Optiver is very statistical. You’ll be working on great problems but in that niche alongside the trader/swes. Something to note is that if you end up not liking it, I’m not sure how much flexibility they offer compared to Amazon.

15k first year bonus for the stub year (~6mo) or for the year (prorated)?

Amazon SRyV42 OP Oct 16, 2020

Edited the post - prorated.

Akuna Capital Kizuna ML Oct 16, 2020

target/minimum? regardless, that's lower than their swe/trading intern TC afaik which doesn't inspire much confidence on how they value the role.

Amazon SRyV42 OP Oct 16, 2020

interesting...they claim the growth will make it more worthwhile than amazon

Amazon shavira Oct 16, 2020

what growth? your internship team?

Amazon SRyV42 OP Oct 16, 2020

optiver believes that growth of comp will make it worthwhile over amazon

Imo don’t join optiver unless you’re a quant trader. Every other role kinda sucks there

Amazon SRyV42 OP Oct 16, 2020

i see that they prioritize traders clearly from their comp but DS works with the traders and might be a less stressful job. just curious, what makes you say it’d suck?

Facebook dssc Oct 16, 2020

You literally just get told what to do by traders. It’s like being a glorified assistant
