Hey Blind, I currently have 2 offers for New Grad Roles. Amazon - SDE1 (San Diego) Base: 129k Stock: 111.5k (crappy vesting schedule 5/10/40/40) Bonus: 40.1k Y1 and 33.6k Y2 Y1 TC: 174.6k Salesforce AMTS (San Francisco / Remote) Base: 141k Stock: 100k (25/25/25/25 vesting) Performance Bonus: minimum 10% Sign On Bonus: 25000 Relocation: 11750 Y1 TC: 217k I know TC for salesforce Y1 is higher but i’m finding it difficult to make a decision. I know my team at Salesforce and we’re doing some fun ML stuff but I have no idea about my team at Amazon Edit: The y2,y3 and y4 TC of SF and AMZN are 180.1k and 175k respectively TC: 0 (haven’t worked yet) YOE: 2 summer internships #amazon #salesforce #newgrad #salary #salarycomparison
This seems like a no brainer
Id Amazon not a high growth / interesting work place
Yea but only if it aligns with what you want. Also, Salesforce has a great offer
Depends what you value. I heard sales force is super flexible with PTO, wfh, and wlb is unbeatable. Some teams might not be interesting though which is why Amazon might be better for growth. If you like the work at sales force would go with them tbh
Known devil with a higher TC is always better than an unknown demon
@Zendesk, mind referring?
Sure dm for referral
Salesforce if you value your mental health. I was faced with the same decision in college, and I chose Salesforce. One of the better decisions of my life. It also gave me plenty time to prepare when I wanted to switch; I don't think it's gonna be as easy at Amazon (and it's unlikely you'd want to stay there for long given their rep)
Do companies recognize work at Salesforce, like is it a good place to start my career and transition? I just don’t want to be stuck without growth opportunities. I suppose Blind is a somewhat toxic place for some companies but I keep hearing that it’s not a great start. You seem to have had a good time with it and moving to Google - may i ask how your TC grew and if Salesforce was decent work still
I 2.5xed my TC when I switched to Google. Salesforce is a tier 2 company, below FAANG, and you'd definitely have recognition once you leave. Just be careful about the kind of tech you work with. The worst part about being there was the tech, proprietary, ancient J2EE stack. And you will have growth opportunities for sure, it's a recognisable brand, and you'd def get interviews. Once you land an interview prestige doesn't mean shit, your interviewing skills do. And those skills will develop only when you give it the time it needs, time which you, on an average, won't get at Amazon, but you will, if you're not unlucky, at Salesforce. It's a very chill, laidback culture where if you want to work, you can ask for it. But don't stick around after your first promo, that would be a big mistake.
So you know and like the team, as well as the work at SF AND the TC is higher? Where's the difficult choice?
i’ve heard growth and work at amazon is interesting and they could potentially give higher TC at higher positions
>Higher TC at higher positions Yes, you can always come in as a lateral hire to Amazon with a much higher TC than those who would have worked there for years If you really want to, stay at Salesforce for 2 years, go to Amazon as SDE2
Salesforce is more like Salesfarce. It’s a good place to start but start leetcoding as soon as you join. I am doing the same at present. Lots of bureaucracy and the culture is all bullshit
Is this a flex?
by no means, this is standard i believe
Why’s your Amazon offer so low
it seems standard for san diego - but i feel like it’s a fat low ball so i’m trying to negotiate with them
My NY offer is like 90k higher
I have 4YoE and your AMTS TC is more than what I make 💀 Thanks Microsoft, really appreciate it 🤣
Taxes tho
Can you use the salesforce offer to negotiate for sign on and a base bump at AWS? The stock will be shit anyways and you should probably jump ship after 2 years in either case. I *think* AWS is a better resume item than salesforce but I could be wrong.
Just saw the ML comment for the salesforce position. ML does seem to be pretty hot right now and I’m seeing more positions open for that despite the freezes than for anything else. If it’s legitimate ML experience that might carry you farther long term if that’s where you want to specialize.
Oh and AWS is in San Diego… nevermind then. Salesforce 100% I should read the whole post next time. This is why my tc is 🥜
