Amazon/Walmart/Tesla/American Airlines offer evaluation
Hello Blind Community, Can anyone please help me evaluate these offers? 1) Walmart: Role: Senior Data Scientist Base: $145000 Equity: $45k/year vested over 4 years Sign on: $33000 Bonus: 20% Relocation:$17K First year TC: $218000 Location: Sunnyvale 2) Amazon Role: L4 BIE Base:$120000 Number of RSUs: 550 vested over 4 years (5/15/40/40) 1st year sign on:$26900 2nd year sign on : $21000 Relocation:$10K 1st year TC: $150K Location: Austin 3) Tesla Role: Data Scientist Base: $100K RSUs:65k vested over 4 years Relocation:$5k 1st year TC: $115k Location: SF 4) American Airlines Role: Operations Research Analyst Base:$85k Sign on: $10k 1st year TC: $95K No possiblity of negotiations from Walmart. Amazon recruiter told me that she already has given an offer slightly lower than max band of L4 BIE. I believe Amazon TC can go up to $155K. Please share your valuable inputs on this YOE: New grad (1 YOE back in India & 1 YOE as an intern at Tesla)

Walmart in SV is too low. Interesting to have no negotiation room. Base could be +180K. I guess SR DS (x4) at Walmart maps to L5-L6 at Amazon (lower end of L6). Not 100% sure, though
Take wm , amazon bie is just sql monkey and no career trajectory , tesla , aa are clear no just by the numbers, also wm is vested over 3 years not 4 AFAIK. I recently interviewed with amazon for a lc5 DS and the team was extremely weak , no applied sense of ds , no vision or strategy , people from witch leading ds teams , sad
You are calculating Walmart TC wrong way. I have a passed away Walmart DS offer letter. Assuming you are joining in July 2022. Note 1: First time you get 45k/16 = 2.8k stock grant in April 2023 that vests after 90 days in July 2023. So, essentially you get stocks of $2.8k only for first year (July 2022-July 2023). Note 2: You get year end pro-rated bonus in Feb every year Note 3: You can keep sign on bonus & relocation on completing 1 year. Calculating 1st year TC: (Assuming you leave Walmart in July 2023) your first year TC excluding sign on will be = $145k + 20%*(6/12) + $2.8k = $162K 1st year TC including sign on+ reloc: $212K Calculating 2nd year TC: (Assuming you leave Walmart in July 2024) $145K + 20% + 5 quarters*$2.8K = $188K 2nd year TC with no sign on: $188K PS: Walmart stock scheme is bad!
Did you calculated RSU correct for 2nd yr? I think you missed refreshers in 2nd yr It should be like this 4 quarters*$5.6k
Calculated correctly I think. Even if OP joins in July 2022, Walmart RSU starts grant in April 2023 which would vest after 90 days. So 2.8K vest in July 2023 (part of 1st year TC) For 2nd year TC, stocks would vest as: 2.8K in Oct 2023, 2.8K in Jan 2024, 2.8K in Apr 2024. 2.8K in Jul 2024 (from 1st $45k which started in Apr 2023) 2.8K in Jul 2024 (from 2nd $45k which started in Apr 2024) So, 5*2.8K
I would join Walmart because 1. DS >> BIE (interesting) 2. 1st year total pay Walmart = 1st year Amazon total pay + $27K 3. Better WLB at Walmart means more TC/hr and more time to prepare for interviews 4. PIP safe and leave Walmart after 1.5 years in Feb 2024 after taking 20% bonus. Amazon is better if want to & can stay there for at least 3 years.
What was Walmart’s interview process?
Really simple 1. Hackerrank Online Assessment (checks Python/Pandas, Time Series) (Even if you do 10-20% of what’s asked you go to next round) 2. Extremely simple case study for training regression models. It’s given 24 hrs prior to interview. 3. One interview focused on behavioral, ML questions (Very low hiring bar for 2 and 3) Any decent not-so-smart DS guy could get the offer. But, recruiters are extremely pathetic

Not sure, I asked about the level at Walmart but recruiter didn't know about that. I believe Senior DS translates to L5
