Don’t drink the company kool aid we’ve been spewing out all over LinkedIn and other social media. American Express claims “no layoffs in 2020” trying to virtue signal to everyone. Well the truth is - American Express laid off 1,500 people in March and there was no news or headlines about it. I’m not saying a company isn’t allowed to lay off it’s employees. What I am saying is - don’t go around virtue signaling that we aren’t laying people off in this pandemic when we did lay off 1,500 people. That’s 1,500 families.
I was able to cancel my Amex recently without having to talk to a human. That’s shocking as they typically will want a human to persuade you to keep an account.
Customer care professionals probably getting overwhelmed with calls so they probably letting automatic cancellation
When did they lay-off
Last day for those employees was March
Hmm. I’ve never liked Amex. I’ve heard working conditions there are very bad. As is crammed space, dirty bathrooms etc.
maybe laid off before pandemic started in US
Lay offs were in March
wow. but I think AXP will layoffs more as they are exposed to lot more businesses doing chapter 11 later this year. hoping they will get some free money just like banks
Are they contractors as they are heavy in them
Full time employees
I had just started talking to a staffing agency for a DE contract role at Amex, location Phoenix. Now seeing this am unsure whether to go ahead. Right now am a contractor for an insurance client at Chicago and quite stable here, but low hourly rate. Was getting a better rate for Amex, but requires me to relocate. Any idea about contractors also being let go
What position / rate?
For Amex
Yup! They have silently done it!
Yup I was laid off on 3/27. That video that went viral a week before I was laid off was definitely in poor taste. Only reason he did it was cause al kelly at visa beat him to the headlines.
I’m sorry to hear that man. Yeah these guys can be real sketch. We had layoffs on our team but everyone is pretending like nothing happened and sharing the video of the ceo saying no layoffs
True. In my division around 32 people got laid off! Still they are doing slowly and silently. Number may be more than 1500!
Yeah I think there were two phases planned. One in March and one during the summer.
Yes !!
What departments?
I know 700 were in tech
