Hi - can anyone confirm non-tech salary range for Sr Mgr at Amex in NY? They’re saying base of $125K with 12% bonus, it sounds too low? Would love any insight here so that I’m not low balled, thanks. YOE: 7
That’s pretty accurate for Sr Mgr non-tech. 12% bonus is fixed for that “band level” which is 35. Once you get to next level, director (band 40), bonus target is 20%. AXP pays on low end but you can expect great WLB if that’s what you want. Annual merit increase is trivial at best (2-5%). Even promo increases aren’t that great as it’s normally capped at about 15%.
Thanks so much, very helpful! If I got hired this month, would I get the 12% bonus in March since that’s when it sounds like it’s paid out based on other posts I’ve seen on blind?
You would not be eligible for the bonus paid at the end of this month. I believe you need to have started by September 1, 2021. You would be eligible for 2022 bonus paid at the end of February 2023 but it would be prorated for the amount of 2022 that you worked for Amex. I started in March (a few years ago) and after my full bonus was calculated, I was only given about 75% of it because I missed 3 out of 12 months of the year.
Senior manager is (typically) a band 35 role which has a 12% base bonus. Our annual incentive program has 2 individual and 1 company multiplier that can be added but unless you’re a really poor performer, 12% is the least you’d be eligible for. 2021’s company multiplier was 150% which is the highest possible at the moment. Which means base bonus would be 18% of salary, plus any personal boosts for having a higher than default annual review rating. Base salary sounds a little low for New York based on what I’ve seen here on Blind, but the bonus is correct except that it can go higher than 12% as I explained above.
Thanks so much! Very very helpful, appreciate it
I came in around 130k as sr mgr, so that’s right. At least in my market and job family (also non tech) it’s the high end of the range. Also, 12% is the minimum bonus that you’re likely to get. There are multipliers depending on individual and company performance. If you’re a top performer and the company has a good year, you can more than double your base bonus.
Thanks, any tips on negotiating higher? Do you mind if I message
Start at 140k and they might meet in the middle. Ask for sign on bonus
Just join as tech director or vp even if you have no tech skills. Anyone who was competent has left and they've been promoting anyone willing to accept a tech leadership role. Every recent b40-45 promotion has been more an acknowledgement that they can't find good talent willing to accept peanuts, more than the person deserving or earning the role. Good for them and grab what you can.
😆
Probably the best advice out there
That’s about right. But I would ask for more and they may be willing to add a bit more. Relatively low pay and good work-life balance. Depends on what you need at this point of career.
Wow .. AMEX pays quite low and that too in NY ..
Unfortunately, it is what it is
the salary can you negotiable to get a little higher?
That sounds about right. Amex doesn’t pay high salaries.
