Amex Compensation

Got asked, prior to interviewing, for a desired compensation package for a Director , technology strategy role in NYC, 8 YOE. Does anyone have any advice on what typical compensation looks like (base, bonus, stock) at American Express? Current tc: 265k

No idea. But I know their salaries are low with market.

I’m also interviewing for that same role. Sike - JK 🤣🤣 . In all seriousness I would check out levels.fyi and you might be able to set a salary benchmark. Anyways when I submitted my resume I was asked to type in my desired compensation 🙄. The recruiter referenced the # but I was able to slight bump it up before she submitted my profile to the hiring manager. During the HR screening process found out that most senior PM’s only get at 12% bonus while Directors get 20%.

I highly doubt Amex can even match your current tc

Yeah even matching your TC would be a stretch for an incoming director. I’m non tech but I’ll give a stab here. You’d be looking at base (170-200) I’d think + bonus target is 20% of base for director (in a good year you can get 150% of your bonus target) and no stock unless you’re an extremely high performer. There’s a 6% 401k match too. Once you get to VP, bonus is 30% of base and you’ll get RSUs annually but not big time like tech companies do. All said you would move to Amex for WLB + 20 week parental leave. Work up to VP or higher and it gets cushier.

Even with bonus + 6%401k it wont cross 280k. I am amazed to see amex is recruiting director position with just 8 yr exp.

You'll never get 265k total comp. Unless your a VP.

dont even bother negotiating.. 180–190k base is top of the band. +20% bonus is not much. I dont think directors get any RSUs. Getting promoted to VP is not easy, there are a ton of tenured directors waiting for their VPs to die.😜

Lol! Over that last comment… Mr. Fintecharc - not sure if you got your expected salary from Amex, but I agree with other folks here and certainly engineering director at Amex is not going to make that much unless someone has been in this position for last 15 years… there are a whole lot of directors and VPs sitting like a duck hampering your growth and grouching over new hires’ salaries… come for a work life balance if you prioritize…
