I’ve got a Chase Sapphire Reserve with over 250k points on it. I’ve got multiple Chase cards - I’m fully enmeshed in the Chase ecosystem. But there’s been a recent promo for the Amex platinum, with a joining bonus of 150k points. The perks and the joining bonus sound really tempting. What would you do? Should I get the Amex Plat? #creditcard #amex
Then, after you make a year, you chat with customer service telling them the points and discounts have no use for your lifestyle or are not appealing enough so you’re thinking of closing the card. They’ll pivot and offer you another 55k points bonus if you spend $4k in the next 3 months of that offer. *rubs hands devilishly*
Haha. My friend who’s a long time Amex Plat holder (I think 12 years now) does this. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. He doesn’t always get that retention bonus. I’m definitely going to try this on my Chase card and see if that works.
Let us know op. I am deciding whether should I retain my chase Sapphire card or not.
Ditched our CSR for Amex Plat 6 months ago. Gimme delta/Amex lounges over the now-crowded Poverty Pass lounges any day.
So far in the poll it looks like Amex is trouncing Chase. Question for Amex Platinum holders: 1. Do you have a complementary card (like Amex Gold) paired with Amex Platinum? 2. Do you have vanilla Platinum, or one of their alternatives (Schwab, Morgan Stanley Platinum)?
I’ve got: plat, schwab plat, business plat, gold, and business gold
Bznz? Do you mean business?
Where's the promo for 150k?
I just dm'ed you my referral link for 150k promo 😄
It was there for the past few days. Today it’s down to 125k. That being said there are other ways to score that 150k, if you Google it. I also got a post in the mail for the 150k offer - it says it’s good through February. Dunno if it’s true.
I've been tempted to switch from Chase to Amex for the better perks/service. My biggest worry has been running into places that don't accept Amex. Do any users still run into that in the US?
I don’t think this is much of an issue within the US. May be a different story internationally.
I haven't ran into a place that doesn't accept amex - I live in nyc and go to sf alot. I've also used it in asia as well this past summer and it worked too
Dont switch, keep both. All the credits they give make up for the annual fees.
I switched from chase to amex over the summer. Was able to get some presale concert/broadway tickets thanks to amex perks at a slightly cheaper price. Theres quite a bit of offers (ex. Spend x amount at lululemon and get x amount back) that's nice too since I shop and it's not random stores like chase/boa cc offers
Absolutely worth it the first year. Enough points for a trip to Europe business class.
Need a referral for 150k points 🙏
Hey - you technically can get that without a referral too. You just need to keep searching for amex platinum (using incognito ) their offers keep changing.

Amex Plat Concierge service is such an X factor. Got me into a fully booked restaurant the night before, one of the most popular in all of downtown Austin, 6:30 - 7pm for my girlfriend’s birthday a few weeks ago. First time I tried it, heard way more impressive stories than mine but impressed me nonetheless. That the CSR agent for the Platinum could actually pull that off
You still pay full prize right? I think concierge is nice but mainly for last minute bookings. Wondering if you observe other benefits.
Just curious what restaurant in austin?
