Amzn > Microsoft PM Comp Expectations

Currently L5 at Amazon. Waiting for offer approval from Microsoft for L62 Program Manager in engineering org. What should I expect for offer comp/salary at this level? Recruiter wouldn’t give me any info on ranges or average..

If you are close to a L6 at Amazon, you are probably more in line for a 63 at MS - or at least soon.

You should settle at 62. Should be 64 or 63 at least

Microsoft SayTheWord Feb 25, 2018

Do not settle for L62. You will certainly get L64 or L63 if you ask for it, especially if you are on track for L6 promo.

What is your comp now?

Microsoft **Ptr++ Feb 25, 2018

“Large sum unvested”. Why are you leaving? MS stock is not even gonna cut it close to the growth Amazon will give you in future unless Microsoft matches dollar amount of unvested stocks and adds another 30-40% on top. Also, if you take L62 job, it’s almost a demotion given where you say you are on the promo path at Amazon.

Microsoft Jxuebsj Feb 25, 2018

With the way Amazon stock has been increasing your best option is to stick in there and let it vest? But if you want more wlb then come over.

Thanks!! Any ballpark on what I should expect for comp/salary at L62? Recruiter wouldn’t tell me the range or average..

Microsoft **Ptr++ Feb 25, 2018

L62 base is around 135-138. Stock target is 10% with max of 20%. Cash bonus is similar to stock. You can definitely negotiate 140K base. Even higher if you are in the hot business areas - Cloud and machine learning.

Thanks!!

Aim for 64 Nothing less than 63 Unlike Amazon almost everyone is a senior at Msft

Microsoft Candycane Feb 25, 2018

You could wait for L6 promo then leave?

Amazon egBO51 OP Feb 25, 2018

Yes, also considering this

Highly recommend doing this if you are close. Then it’s easy to get a senior (63). Recruiters will typically try to make you move laterally and unless you have a leverage it’s hard to negotiate. Alternatively you need to tell them that you are ready to walk away if not 63 (and you need to be able to stick to your guns). Good luck.
