Any Game Designers on Blind?

What was your career path? How did you become a game designer? Do you enjoy your job? What roles do you need to go through to ultimately become a game designer?

I work in the games industry and I’ll say that you won’t hit TCs anywhere near the sdes on here. Expect to only be making like 60k at established companies starting out. And maybe hitting 100k after 5-6 years and a shipped title or two. It helps a ton if you have technical skills like programming, vector math, etc. Several designers I’ve worked with have come from being amazing QA testers. But that’s hard work and takes a lot of determination and effort on your end to stick your next out and go above and beyond your role as a QA.

I am. Got the job by networking/luck. These days it’s best to go to digipen or the USC program. Create a portfolio. You can work on a game right now, all the tools are free (Unity and Unreal etc). QA can also be a path, but really hard to get out of it and QA pay is shit usually and the job is hard. Only good if you’re in your early 20s.
