My recruiter just reached out to me again saying they can gimme an offer. But... here's the deal, I interviewed 4 months ago because I was impacted by the hiring freeze. I'm so close to 2 YOE now that it sounds dumb to even take an L3 offer. I was wondering if there are anybody is a HM or knows a HM at Google who's willing to take me as an L4 instead. More about me: 1.5 YOE, HC cleared for L3. Usually I'd give TC but considering I might find my next boss here I'd rather not. Worked on 4 different product launches, on track for promo and TT evaluation at Amazon. Strong background in front-end engineering (JS, React), Python (contributor to a very well known OSS product in that space). Developing my C/C++ skills by working on my own Vulkan rendering engine right now, but admittedly no work experience with it. As you can see, I really do like my job. I want something more challenging and work with smarter people. Also, more money would be nice because I wanna buy a home someday. My interview performance -- behavioral: strong hire, technical: strong hire (and strong hire for L4), lean hire, lean hire. This will all be in my interview packet anyways, but wanted to show you I'm not a weak candidate. What I'm looking for: a field that's more deep and with people who actually know how a computer works. No teams full of CRUD or script monkeys please. I'd like to work in any of the following: distributed systems, ML, 3D rendering, etc. IK I have a background in frontend, but this field is really boring and doesn't feel like it has a lot of growth potential or a high skill ceiling for me to stand out in. C++ is a huge plus plus since I've been eyeing financial engineering as a career someday.
Lol you think you’re full of shit but honestly just an Amazon L4 (Google L3 equivalent) with 1.5 YoE and limited front end background from Amazon. Getting L3 is a right classification since there’re stronger candidates with more YoE, higher level, being offered L3 as well. If you’re a rockstar like you claimed you are, earn your promotion to L5 in Amazon then G will offer you L4.
Absolutely its rare to see candidate getting upleveled at Google; they are either hired at same level or downlevel. So If Op is a rockstar (which he claims) get a promotion in Amazon’s dreamworld and come back to Google to try your luck again!
BS my referral got L3 after being an excellent L5 at Amazon. She said she messed up one interview but rest definitely went well.
HM can’t change HC decision so you have to convince them to do more interviews or wait until you get to L5 at Amazon. To be honest, L3 feels like the right level and you can be promoted in a year if you are a superstar (have seen two in 6+ years) (L8 @ G)
I thought its HC who decide your level not the HM. Anyways HMs never interview candidate their convo is a basic skill match high level discussion so I doubt any HM would have any authority to recommend a higher level on the basis of a quick discussion! This is the whole purpose of having an unrelated central team called ‘Hiring Committee’ to ensure there is no bias in hiring a candidate.
Lol if you’re really a superstar who has launched 4 projects and ON TRACK (read: not promo’ed yet) at AMZ eyeing financial engineering as a career someday because you don’t want to work on CRUD or front end or with script monkeys, why are you trying to go to Google? 😂 Go straight to the hedge fund if you’re really cut up to be what you describe
Awful and pathetic! You are very arrogant and not even an L3!
Nope. Its really hard right now. Even internally we can’t switch teams. You have either suck it up and take L3 or try again in 2 years for L5
Really? No team switching? That sucks bad. One of the best parts of Amazon is the internal mobility here. You can just leave any team you think is mistreating you.
Normally you can team switch in G but currently not during the hiring freeze.
