I’m already a senior level Full Stack Developer. I have a BS in computer science. I know it’s a broad question and has probably been asked. Any feedback is welcome, TIA. #engineering #software #swe
I’d do an advanced degree only if it’s 1. Paid for by your employer and 2. A pretty solidly ranked program and 3. Actually beneficial in an area of specialty you want to end up in (e.g., becoming a ML engineer) and 4. You actually like learning and working on stuff outside of work
All good points! Have noted that ML is essentially a grad field of study, doesn’t necessarily compel me to go back to school.
MS CS is good if you're coming from another STEM and want to transition into a swe. I know it was also good for a lot of foreigners in my program for visa and getting a job in the USA. If you want to make yourself more marketable for high level leadership then get your company to pay for an executive MBA at a top school.
Great advice, thanks!
I did a 1 year ms immediately after bs. It was worth a minor bump at some companies as new grad. Eg one recruiter heard I had an MS and immediately wrote up my base by $5k. I doubt I'd go back to school full time explicitly for comp boost without a clear objective.
Not relevant to the post but do you happen to know if Apple does new grad roles? I’ve been keeping an eye out but nothing so far.
No clue. Everything about apple is pretty nonstandard so even if I did know it may not be true for the next org over.
grad school is a scam
