I'm flying to California next week for Google orientation. What should I expect? What do I need to accomplish? How should I dress? Can you give me any tips?
No need to worry about any of those. What’s really important is to talk to your manager as soon as the orientation ends with the next few weeks planned out and mutually agreed goals.
Try not to sleep during the talks. Skip the ones that aren’t mandatory and do something useful instead!
It's two weeks. A bit long for a simple orientation. What will Google want me to do? In MS I already finished some sub-projects by that time.
First couple of days are paper work. Some would be dev environment set up and a few engineering training about google internals. Some would be management crap which is totally fine to ignore. They will send the details ahead of time and attend the ones you find interesting and any specific ones your manager has asked to.
Just relax and enjoy the ride. Unless you're coming over from another big company, you'll get into information overload mode. Don't worry about it. Dress any way you feel comfortable. Congrats!
Same here. Next week Google's orientation. Why I only have one week.
