I have jo experience in buying cars and was thinking of getting a tesla and was getting into the area and was wondering if : buying a car from another state would be better .. eg. i am in WA and NJ offers 5k rebate and no tax .. did someone hack this out somehow ?
You pay tax based on where you reside, not from where you purchase it from. The dealer will calculate tax fees based on your zip.
so if part of family is staying in NJ than one can use that address ?
Yes you can. You can register it for X time period ( I think Maryland is 1 year) And if you transfer your plates to your home state, you don't attract state tax.
For the NJ incentives, you have to have a NJ license and residence. The site also says you must remain in NJ for 2 years otherwise you are subject to owe it back although I’m not sure how they will reinforce that.
