Like after the first week of dopamine rush, it's the worst. I hate having to take it in for maintenance. I'm probably getting ripped off. If you refuse extra service, the techs might just "ding" up the axles so you have to come in more than needed. Insurance is expensive even though I've never caused an accident. I need to buy $$$ parking spot to just leave this hunk of metal when I'm flying out - still get broken into. Don't get me started on DMV license renewals. I'm really desperate to getting a job in "metro" type cities where you don't need a car, but I'm in the bumfuck south where it's parkinglotville I need to get on the freeway to get some eggs milk.
Very few places in the US where you can get away without a car
Was thinking like nyc, sf, Chicago maybe it's better than most other cities
You have to actively live in downtown, or have half an hour of commute
Own a EV. 0 gas. 0 maintainence
Good morning Metro dweller Your only train to work has been cancelled due to unplanned maintenance, take care and have a nice day!
At least I can walk to a coffee shop
If you live in the US of A, you don't have a choice. Car dependent infrastructure fucks you in your ass and you pretend to enjoy.
I can't even walk out of the suburban hellscape there's no sidewalks
Your options: 1. Buy a Chevy suburban and look like an idiot 2. Buy a Ford f150 and look like an idiot 3. Buy a Cadillac Escalade and look like an idiot
We need better public transit. Cal train / bart
Man that would be amazing
Bro what car do you have and what dealer do you go to and what state is this in? I mean, if the cars reliable, you don’t need to do maintenance. It’s usually about once every year for me, or worst case once every 9 months. I get a pretty detailed invoice and overall my maintenance isn’t that expensive (max $300 I think) If you’re flying, maybe ask someone to drop you? Or book an Uber maybe? Parking for flying is usually a bad idea and cannot be trusted, unless you pay $$$$. DMVs (at least in Washington) for license renewals are online. So I just pay the fees online and go collect it.
It's a Mazda, got invoiced like $650 for "routine maintenance" trans fluid, coolant flush, brake flush, (just the fluids mind you, not like brake pad replacement) when I came in for an oil change + rotation for $80. They got pissed when I said no, like I had the manual pulled out and I was just going off the lines. DMV is in person here gotta stand in line, wish it was like wash
Damn. Sorry to hear. Never knew Mazda service centers are so shady. I had a pretty bad experience with Mazda in Texas too - dudes were trying to scam me with a bunch of unnecessary add-ons while negotiating a car deal. Thank god we didn’t go through with it. I guess sell the car and buy a Prius or something?
“If you refuse extra service the techs might sing up the axles” lol take your meds schizo.
Maybe dont think of cars as just an appliance or a means to and end and you wont feel that way 🤷
What else do I think of it as? Idc about status symbols
The hundreds of millions of people who are car enthusiasts (all varying degrees of enthusiasm) dont think of cars as just an appliance or a means to an end would disagree with you fully. I'm not saying you become a car enthusiast, but think of it from a high level its not *just* a hunk of metal with tires
Use uber
Yeah I do, but stuff is not tightly packed in my city, so the tab runs up fast
