I want to know the following: 1) WLB 2) Promo cycle 3) IPO estimate 4) Leadership I'm currently interviewing and had mixed signals from people. Glassdoor has extreme reviews. Anyone can share in a candid way to see if it's a good fit for me. Thanks blind community. Blind Tax: 0 #tech #software #startup
don’t join, nightmare of a company, glassdoor reviews are true
Second. While I still work there it’s really just to have income until I find something better. 1) WLB: Depends on the team but the more you “socialize” with your colleagues and get in with the australian favorites, the better your chances will be of surviving. 2) Promo cycle: stupid process, run by a bunch of legacy hires which the company has clearly outgrown but they are unwilling to let go of. It’s a favorites game. 3) IPO estimate: could go either way 4) Leadership: similar to point 2. Anyone new we bring in gets bulldozed by ceo and cco.
All true, sadly.
@OP what role did you interview for? and what was the process like?
Feel free to message me directly if you want more insights. On your comments: 1) Depends on the team/role. There are a few people who work around the clock, and others who work normal hours. It’s a global company, so emails/chat messages come in at all hours. Personally, I work about 50 hours a week, with 3 days in the office. There’s flexibility to start/end later if you’re on early/late calls. 2) Promotions are reviewed every 6 months. There is an internal career ladder where roles, requirements and compensation is published openly. You’ll have to push for promotion with your manager, but it seems like a company that puts employee growth first. 3) Everyone is asking the same question. Given the current tech climate, it’s not going to happen before 2024. Your options will start to vest a year after you join, then every quarter after that. 4) I know what you mean about Glassdoor. Depending on your level, you are detached from leadership and won’t have much to do with them. It’s a startup, there are good people and some not so good people. I wouldn’t worry about it too much…again it depends on your area, I know BD can be quite rigid and cut-throat. Out of interest, what are the mixed signals you’ve been hearing?
Thanks for your response. Mixed signals around the WLB part, people thrown under the bus with no guidance, work or get fired company culture and extreme micromanagement. I know companies like Amazon/Tesla have been doing the same and are pretty successful but that's something I'd avoid. I want to work and thrive but prefer an environment of clear expectations/guidance, encouraging leadership, no work or get fired culture which breeds toxicity at workplace, and trust/autonomy to do stuff without micromanagement. Avoiding cultures similar to Amazon/Tesla and looking forward towards more Google/Meta/Dropbox like culture. I can't reveal the companies I've worked but I've been on both sides so the concern.
I guess it depends on the team, so I can’t speak for the company. My team is excellent, my boss is supportive, hands-off and lets me get on with my job. I know there have been some comments on Glassdoor about extreme micromanagement (especially from leadership) but honestly, I haven’t seen this. I’ve personally found Rokt respectful of time…people don’t start arriving in the office until around 9:30 and it’s mostly empty by 6. That being said, it is a startup and that comes with putting in extra etc, so if you’re looking for a 9-5, it’s probably not the best place.
