I am looking for a Bulldog puppy. I see a lot of great reviews on the site https://www.puppyspot.com/reviews , but yelp and BBB have some really bad reviews. I would love to hear any firsthand experiences.
Why not compromise on specifics and adopt.
I am looking into that as well. My condo has breed restrictions and I am looking for small/medium quiet dogs. Its hard to find that when you look at adoption options.
Well breeders can’t guarantee quiet. There are general characteristic but dogs have individual characteristics.
Thats a good tip to consider. Thanks
If your heart is set on a particular breed then reach out to the local club. The AKC website will have a breeder directory.
I agree on working with the AKC registry for a breeder. Make sure that you visit the breeder and the parents of your future puppy. You can get a good glimpse of what your puppy's temperament will be like by seeing the parents and how the breeder's other dogs behave.
Please consider adopting, from shelter/rescue if possible! Assuming you are in Seattle, Seattle Humane is an awesome organization and will help you with the process.
There are rescue organizations that deal with certain types of dogs only. Not sure about bulldogs (also not sure if you want English or French) but there is a general Snub Nose one near where I live that helps place French Bulldogs, Pugs, and Boston Terriers only. I think they're called SNORT for Snub NOse Rescue Team.
Purebreds are a waste of time and money across the board. Best dogs in my life have been mutts.
PuppySpot at first glance appears to be responsive. That is the case until you actually receive your puppy. The first time I should have known was when I asked for Breeder information and they provided the excuse that they have to protect their breeders and puppies from theft. Well we have in the past purchased from breeders and the breeders are usually proud of the puppies We lost our dog and we went to PuppySpot based upon the reviews on their direct website. What I didn’t realize that when I attempt to leave a review on their direct website there doesn’t seem to be the ability to do so. I did not do a general check as I have done now. There seems to be several reviews over the internet of others who have experienced what I have experienced. Breeders are usually anxious to share the information, then I asked for the USDA # for the Breeder and apparently that is a secret as well. It is my opinion and the opinion of more than one vet we have talked with that this is most likely puppies received from puppy mills. The puppy is from Missouri. Unfortunately our puppy came to us skinny and according to the vet was treated aggressively for Gardia risk while in PuppySpot’s care. The vet was extremely clear that the type of medical care she received demonstrated that the breeder is well aware that it has this problem at the kennel and they sold her despite this issue. In addition the puppy guarantee is a joke. They delay, don’t respond, claim they didn’t receive complete record. Anything to delay and avoid. We will do what we need to do to treat her. Her form of Gardia is so aggressive it has been over 3 months of treatment and she is still infected. As a result she misses out on puppy play dates, training and the like. She can’t go to parks and play with other dogs and my guess is the puppies who have come from this Breeder are experiencing the same issues. She is on a special diet and still on medicine. Puppies get sick. But the secrecy of the Breeder (Name and USDA#), the aggressive Medical treatment by the Breeder for Gardia type diseases, and lack of response is unacceptable. We are not sure ultimately what other health affects she will suffer. If this doesn’t resolve we will need to take more aggressive medical action which has side affects. Beware of purchasing puppies from this company.
Please don't buy puppies through this kind of crap. If you want a purebred puppy, find a great breeder and support their efforts. If you don't care about having a purebred puppy, then rescue and save a life. Think of pets as more than something you can buy off an online store. It's not like toilet paper you buy from Amazon.
This seems to be a service that connects you with breeders. They have a no puppymill promise. What leads you to conclude that this is a bad service?
I get it. But how can you guarantee quality? I have always had purebred German shepherds growing up. When I finally got my own, I visited 7 breeders from 3 states. Or else, you can always rescue. Its going to be your family member, you should do your own due diligence.
