Anyone in Atlanta?

I live in San Jose but looking to go somewhere more affordable and a little closer to family (married with 2 small kids). The closest city that fits the bill and may work is Atlanta. Any thoughts? How is the job scene there? Is it a nice place to live? Thanks!

I've a few friends from grad school that still work there. They rave about the affordability and standard of life (I've lived there myself for two years and loved every minute of it), but there will be some compromise. Pay for one. Variety of jobs for another. Tech is growing over there, but quite slowly. So you might not have a ton of options. It depends on how easily you get bored in a company I guess.

Pandora is expanding to Atlanta. Will be pretty big office. Hiring right now. Lots of eng and non eng roles.

I am in Atlanta. Great place to live and work. Affordable for the moment, much cheaper than San Jose by far. Traffic has gotten bad, so keep that in mind when considering jobs and housing, but this is because the job market has been booming here. Lots of green space all around. Lots of history, good and bad, all across the state to see and appreciate. Schools in some parts of the city are good, but you might want to look at the NE suburbs like Johns Creek, Alpharetta and Duluth for the top schools of the state. If you got a lot of Silicon Valley money to buy a big house, look at Brookhaven. You want an apartment and city life, look at the upscale neighborhood of Buckhead or the artsy neighborhood of Little Five Points. As for jobs, we are hiring Unity Engineers with crypto experience.

Thank you so much for the detailed info. I have an offer from a consulting firm and one of the cities they are ok with is Atlanta so I am less worried about the commute and more so about school districts and the surrounding vibe. And yes, I want big ass house! Is the weather nice? Thanks again.

It is the South. Hot and humid. Nickname for Atlanta in summer is Hotlanta.
