How do the bonuses typically work? Is it basically guaranteed or is It based on personal / team / company goals where there is a real chance of not receiving it?

I worked in a company where the common practice was to give the bonuses based in the quarter performance of the company. Beat the expectations? 100% to 105% of your target bonus, not so much? 90%.
However individual performance was rewarded in semestral refreshers.
