Anyone who can refer me for Riot Games, Blizzard or Activision?

I am a passionated Software Engineer with 5 YOE and Gamer and are trying hard to get into the Gaming Industry. Expertise in Java, Web Applications. Open to learn new. Familiar with C#, but its been a while I’ve coded C#. Can I talk to someone in that industry to get some insights? Thanks!

No, you are right. But for me it’s alright, I am willing to cut the salary if I get a job that’s actually fun. Money ain’t all.

Go for it. It’s fun as hell

You gotta learn c++ though. It’s hard to get in without domain knowledge. Try to follow some YouTube series and make a game yourself. There are many disciplines you can see where your interests align the most. Graphics, gameplay, UI, systems, tools.

Learncpp.com is my go-to. It's a great read and gives u good details about certain topics. Definitely makes you interview ready.

If you want a really thorough series about game dev without layers of middleware or framework or engine. You can search for handmade hero series on YouTube. But this is a little bit hardcore. You can definitely just start with unreal or unity at first

You're probably better off contributing to some project (open source game, etc..), doing mods or something similar to get experience in game dev. There are lots of ways to be involved in "gaming" without being a game dev and a lot of them pay better too.

Read up on AAA Crunch, EA Spouse etc. If you are ok with sacrificing health and personal life for a huge cut in TC go for it. Given C# and web you should like go for tooling type positions and/or start to learn Unity and do a polished portfolio project. If you want to get into hardcore AAA games you need to get pretty deep on (old fashioned) C++, 3d math, performance etc.
