How is it? What are the teams like? Anything interesting going on there Edit: no offer - just considering this team as a recruiter reached out Check out this job: Software Development Engineer - New Team! (Level 5) https://www.linkedin.com/jobs/view/837070038
It’s called financial technology apparently
Biggest minus is that fintech have a bunch of rules engines and a lot of work there is writing rules rather than true coding. It's impactful work but your leetcoding skills can take a big hit. Find out if you will be coding the engine, or coding the rules.
Hmm. Noted
Rules are written in DSL?
did you already got an offer?
Nope not even applied. Got a message from a recruiter and looked it up.
Go for it... even if you don’t want to join the team you can always do it... Good Luck!
You didn't miss much. Crucial area but nothing to do with FinTech. DBA shop by and large at least till a few years ago.
It’s primary customer is accounting and the org has gone through many big changes in the last 4 years. Most of the tech was absorbed by its customers (tax, operations) and accounting is the only one left. The current VP was the former Corp controller and the main goal over the next few years will be to get rid of Oracle ERP by building replacement.
How is WLB in FinTech group? Amazon doesn’t have great reputation there but heard this group is different. Is that true?
Like any org it can be tough but it’s not bad really. In general I would say it’s better than most.
Better than average for sure.
It’s demanding. I’m in that org now and it’s a global role. You support any finance changes or legislation that trickles your way. There’s no cherry way of putting it- you’re on call 24/7, but that’s the nature of AMZN.
I haven’t heard about this before - but is TC the same across the orgs/teams ? In finance where you sit in the org directly affects your comp even if you are the same level (at least Wall Street / Bay Street)
Don't go there. Its very operational and Day5 org.
What’s Day5 .org ?
Understand day 2 first then yill get it. https://youtu.be/fTwXS2H_iJo
Don’t do it— so many other teams. The good engineers have left to AWS. It’s a lower hiring bar because it’s an unsexy product with nightmare customers.
I was thinking of it because I have worked only on street so thought would be a transition from finance to tech, but sounds like you are right - will wait for something more interesting.
