Just got an offer for Apple Austin Campus & trying to decide if worth taking. Currently working at Goldman Sachs I Dallas where there is close to 0 flexibility anymore. I heard Apple is starting to force 3 days back in office. Do people think the rule will stick/get worse/get more relaxed overtime? Also, how is the Austin campus for Apple? Worth moving for?
What’s your role and TC?
What are the offer details?
At this time there is a 0 percent change of WFH permanently at apple, if this is important, then I would reconsider.
I was working with GS too. Leave Gs and join Apple . Better pay etc .
I am interviewing for Apple in Austin
Depending on your team and org, the 3 days mandatory is flexible.. meaning if you got doctors appointment on the day you are supposed to go in, you can still leave early to see your doctor or come in late after appointment. They just don’t want people to consistently miss the days that they are supposed to come in. Unless you are planning on not coming in consistently, you should find the 3 days pilot program easy to work with. You should figure out which building your org works in. If you are going to be in the center lake buildings near tech ridge… you will have no amenities and need to take a shuttle that runs once every hour to the Parmar campus for amenities like wellness center, gym, and caffe for food.
How are the food? Is it expensive or affordable ? And the Gym ? What amenities we have ?
Wellness center and gym what’s the difference
Do you take shuttle to work ?
I do not, but if you happen to live near any of the apple building, then you could take shuttle to other buildings or campus
Ah I see . How is WLB? For QAE or sDET
Well, Apple Austin is more or less a dumping ground for all trash, ops , IS&T and insignificant product/infra/support folks. It’s ripe with WITCH converts and not considered a “real Apple” experience. There’s also HW Eng with no WLB and mediocre pay, work culture overall is top-down and it’s more or less an Indian IT sweatshop. If you think you can thrive in that, do feel free to join.
Looks like Apple got a ton of trash. Cause that campus is big and getting bigger every year.
Sounds great 😆
Btw the hybrid model is a PILOT, so there’s no guarantee they will offer remote days after the pilot is completed. The fact that Apple doesn’t offer remote work after the 2 year “pilot” that was Covid is an indicator that they will eventually return to full time in the office.
Making a physical move on whether you get to WFH is not wise.
I won't based off wfh. Anything will give me more flexibility than GS is right now. Just want to better understand what I'll be getting myself into for future planning
So we are using a term "pilot" for 3 day work week. I am sure its pilot as the name suggest 😂
