AT&T and Verizon kept offering iPhones to customers who trade in older devices and subscribe to more expensive wireless plans, a strategy similar to past iPhone releases. The deals nudge customers toward plans that pay off the handset purchase price over three years. T-Mobile offered similar deals for new iPhone 15 models and tied the most generous discounts to its premium plans, which encourage device upgrades every one or two years. Dish Network’s new Boost Infinite service went a step further: It promised customers who sign up for a $60 monthly plan free iPhone upgrades each year. These options are not worth for individual plans, paying just $60/line -3 years locking period and paying $2160 for 3 years , many simple prepaid plans offers $20/month (cost only $720 for 3 years).
It’s mutually beneficial… so yeah. IPhones are seen are market leaders and consistently rates highest for broad customer satisfaction, and carriers want to be associated w them. They make money on recurring mobile payments.
It’s mutual benefits only with group plans because the recurring payments further subsidizes. I won’t recommend for individual or less than 4 lines.
You actually have to buy the $80 or $90/month plan to get the Verizon deal and I think T-Mobile is $75/mo. Where can you get such cheap prepaid plans though? For a reasonable amount of data and good coverage
You have to look MVNO service for decent data plans under $20
I have two adults on my plan with Verizon. We’re on the basic 5G unlimited with 2 lines at $65/mo each and my spouse has a connected smartwatch with number share for $10. So it’s $140 plus fees. Been thinking about switching to another carrier but the savings seemed minimal
We should start talking about BlackRock’a business practices
Apple is burning 🥵 now
They need to do something. The product is is expensive (obviously) and it gets harder and harder to justify spending thousands each year for a family to upgrade to the latest iPhone model. Upgrades are the same thing each year: - Better battery life: Doesn’t matter always able to charge if needed. - Faster CPU: Doesn’t matter I don’t use it for gaming. - Brighter screen: Don’t care. I’m not glued to screen when outside. Better Camera: Nice to have, but not worth spending thousands on as camera on iPhone 13 Pro Max already takes great photos. 🤷♂️
Ok. So these for-profit companies are ... trying to make profit?
My biggest concern is 3 years locking period.
