I’m getting plenty of calls from apple recruiters regarding Engineering Program Manager roles. Should I respond to them? What are your thoughts on these roles? Is EPM < TPM? TC 210K, Devices
EPM at Apple is usually less impactful than other companies. Some say it's closer to a minutes taker for EMs
Lmao, that’s sad 😂
Mine doesn’t even take minutes. She sets up a “follow up” to “discuss notes and follow up” FML
Hahaha Amen, perfect description.
Dear Sir, if you crack the EPM interview at Apple. Please don’t make Siri talk dirty to me!
Ayo that was the first thing I was gonna do 😭
I know which is why I wanted to stop it before it gathered more momentum
EPMs can play a very impactful role at Apple. There are directors who are EPMs and engineers report into them. You have to have good people skills and the ability to influence others without control over them. If you play your cards right you can end up having impactful products that you own. I would not be surprised if there are VPs who started off as EPMs and grew as EPMs.
Aren't they capped at IC5? Doesn't sound too impactful to me
lol they aren’t capped — It is thought to get to be ICT6 because that is Dir level. Doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen. I have seen people go back and forth between Eng -> TPM -> Eng because TPM givens them the skill to influence without authority. Learning this skill is a must in any job.
Incoming entry level tpm here, formerly eng. To what extend might someone become pigeonholed into tpm if they later want to move back to eng?
They are not capped at ICT5. I know of two EPM directors who have over 100 engineers reporting into them.
I’ve been at Apple a few years, I’ve never understood what an EPM does..
That is really sad. They are fundamental to the way Apple does business internally.
Depends on the org I guess, the EPM I worked with were ghosts.
EPMs are a hybrid between project manager and product manager but leaning more towards project management
at Apple there's no TPM. EPM at Apple = TPM at other companies
Thanks bro, so they’re useless?
what a terrible attitude you have! apple ships products on time because of their EPMs. especially because of the way orgs are structured at Apple, it's the EPM that play a crucial role and make cross functional efforts possible
