This is my first posting. May everyone who are seeking new jobs get to the end of the tunnel with a smile:) HW validation/system design role in current company, EEMS + 4.5YOE. Now I got two offers, Apple SEG Analog IP validation team vs. Amazon Lab126 device validation team. The offers they threw at me are both verbal and the salary negotiation has not really started, but since they knew they were competing, the TC may not have much room to negotiate further and from both HR, they think the TC is considered competitive. TC: Apple: Location: Cupertino Level: HR would not tell, guess ICT3 Base: 150k Sign-on: 60k RSU: 160k(4 years, 25% each year) Amazon: Location: Sunnyvale Level: L5 Base: 150k Sign-on: 85k + 62k(initial two years) RSU: 50units(4 years, 5%, 15%, 40%, 40%) From just the numbers they both seem reasonable(not exceeding just OK), if I stay long then Apple has more reasonable refresher RSU policy than Amazon(which takes count of current TC instead of just performance). Apple's offer actually came later with knowledge of Amazon's #. So I guess their VP does not want to overpay at all. :P After all I would say they are pretty much neck-to-neck. More important stuff: Career Development Apple SEG: This team would expose me to multiple types of analog IPs, I have my background in analog IC like PLL, VCO, LNA... so I guess this is like going home :) The day-to-day job is focused on automating the test and find anomaly and thus root cause. The director did say that they want to introduce ML/AI into data sorting to help find key information that may counter engineer's intuitive. This part came as surprise but I do want to invest time into it once I ramp up the regular stuff. Amazon Lab126: This team take care of all smart devices like Kindle tablet, echo, and newer ones like glass frame and other wearables. One would be expected to provide validation plan on each sub-circuits like IO/power/memory/display... for to technician team to execute and also do root cause if anything comes up. This is a product level role thus will involve some traveling to factory and working with vendors as well since all parts are from 3rd parties. That is just on the sole technical level, not entirely sure what office climate is like in both teams. The interviewers from both teams were polite and did not seem to be the dominant kind and push others to agree with them. Amazon has been bad-mouthed on Blind way too much IDK what is true or false. May need people who are in the team to shed some light. :) At this point of my career, I do care about how much I learn more than how much $ I make. It's clear that Apple SEG centers around analog IC and diving into data analysis vs. Amazon centers around end product and making fast-paced decisions. Not sure which kind of skill set would make me more likely to succeed in the future. Please throw your ideas :) Cheers #update Took Apple's offer, thanks all for reply :) #hardware #apple #amazon #salarycomparison
