Apple Salary Negotiations

I am currently in talks with Apple for a hardware role in SEG (Bay Area). The first set of numbers that I got from the recruiter were 135base/105krsu/20bonus. When I sent him my expectations ( 150/140/30), their answer was the increment I asked for depends on the VP approval rating ( apparently the executive who approves the offer says whether the offer can be increased or not). Is that how Apple works? What are the chances of increment after the executive approved the offer? TC: 125k

How many years of experience do you have? Did you get a written offer from the recruiter? Or is it verbal?

Cadence airjordan Jul 25, 2019

Yes how many yoe?

Intel PeaceOu OP Jul 25, 2019

This is for 3yoe. This is all verbal. Haven't received any written offer!

IC3?

Yup.

Sometimes recruiters try to lowball

Intel PeaceOu OP Jul 25, 2019

That's true. Hence the ask on Blind 😀

Yes it’s normal that all adjustments have to get VP approval. TC doesn’t look too far off from the original offer but Apple is stingy about changing RSUs. If they do approve it, expect them to compensate them not changing RSUs and increasing base/sign on to compensate. Then again unless you have a competing offer, your ask is a significantly greater than your current TC (if they know it).

Intel PeaceOu OP Jul 25, 2019

Thanks for the info. And I do have some competing offers.

For 3 yoe, i had another friend get similar 135k base amount at apple. Rsus were $117k so only slightly higher.

I joined SEG last year as an ICT3 with a PhD (0 YoE). I was offered 135k/105k RSU/20k sign on. Most team mates are also in that range. When I asked for more I was told that this will need SVP approval as the recruiter does not have the approval to offer 145k base, which I had asked for. They didn't budge even a single dollar :-). 6 months after joining, I got a surprise 11k bonus from my manager. He said that he valued my efforts and is giving me a bonus at his own discretion. Most team mates got it. Although Apple is stingy in hiring it does a good job at bonus and refreshers. Please fight back with your competing offers and do not show the desperation to join. Take all your time to think before responding on the phone. These recruiters have a tendency of not giving time to think, that's their winning strategy. Making them wait should be yours :-). Good luck.

TBH i thought apple used to pay the best in hardware. But these TC numbers are given even at Cadence and other similar companies. So perhaps the perception of moving to apple with $ as the major motivator is wrong. Or maybe with higher YOE > 10, the TC numbers are different

Apple Badamtuss! Aug 7, 2019

How much refreshers does Cadence have every year? Also Cadence gives these numbers for 3 YOE? A lot of the comp Comes from good refreshers at Apple. Also Apple lowballs Intel guys by a lot. However, for 3 YOE, that is a pretty good offer considering hardware.

Cadence maroooon5 Aug 14, 2019

Yes, so with 4 YOE Cadence pays this much. However RSUs refreshers are only given to 1/3rd of the company. In Apple is it guaranteed to get RSU refreshers every year for all engineers irrespective of performance? If yes, is it same as the original RSU grant in joining if not more?

Do you have an MBA? The question is how many hours do you work at Intel and what do you think it'l be like in the new role. ;)

Intel HotDang Aug 10, 2019

I don't understand the context of your questions. Are you saying that Apple pays more but makes you work too much? I think I am ready to shell out some of that amazing "WLB" from Intel for $$$ from Apple. 😀 Oh, I don't have an MBA btw.
