Apple’s App Store is a monopoly and rips off startups by charging 30%(!!) per transaction. You’re also blocked from using Stripe, and they force you to use Apple Pay.

Total rip-off, what do you think?

At least Microsoft’s platform is open. Microsoft doesn’t have the ability to stop you selling your software to other windows customers. And we shouldn’t.

Isn’t one of the reasons why Apple argues that they can’t open their App Store is because of security and diligence that the apps will work properly with iOS? Isn’t it amazing that’s not the case all the time when apps crash or code is kept on your phone to track you when you delete an app?

As a user I’m grateful that the App Store is a one stop shop for any iPhone app and that I can be reasonably sure the app I download isn’t gonna be malware. It costs Apple money to provide that service, and 30% is reasonable

If you never ran a startup you would never know. Apple is a monopoly. This has been an issue for companies like Spotify and AMZ.

Apple’s has a bigger market share in Greater Seattle Area (Snohomish, King and Pierce county).

That’s some impressive gatekeeping; run a startup or your opinion is invalid

They aren’t a monopoly as they don’t even have the largest mobile store platform.

That being said, as with all of the FAANG members there is a question as to whether you can be a platform while also competing on your platform where you clearly have either an advantage or in apple’s case outright ban potential competition

Use Google store or if it's a popular app, put the apk file on a secure server for people to download and install. Screw apple.

30% is not a reasonable cut and duopolies are nearly as bad as monopoly. However the US has a very narrow definition of anti trust in recent decades and so won't interfere.

Take Spotify for example with a simple math.

Free downloads and free use of service.

Premium service at $9.99 a month. Beautifully done.

    1000 monthly subscribers at $9.99 = $9,990 total revenue. Apple takes $2,997

    Not a fair game.

They pushed out some response paper to that. And to be fair, it's uncertain if either side is completely right

Take goooooooggle for example. Don’t charge anything from anyone and sell all the user data for probably more money. Not a fair game either
