Yahoo Finance is showing Apple's market cap: $2.869T It used to be $3T when Apple was about $182.50 back in January 2022. And 1. Apple has been buying back shares... (so number of shares outstanding becomes smaller due to this) 2. Some YouTube video said FAANG etc give out RSU to employees by issuing and diluting their shares by about 1% each year (printing 1% of shares and give out as RSUs) (so number of shares outstanding becomes greater due to this) Are these the reasons? The only thing that matters is shares outstanding, and Apple has been famous for buying back shares in excess of dilution from comp for the past decade. That’s part of why Buffett loves them.
so I guess if Buffett is buying and holding it, and Apple who knows itself best, is also buying it, well then, I am buying it too.
Buffet will sell right after you buy
#2 isn’t significant compared to #1
Stock investing 101, but good observation 👍
so it is a bit funny: 1. Buy back of stock is good in general for all investors 2. However, the market cap shrinks, which doesn't look that good Like, they contradict each other. But with some more thinking, I think it is this: with the stock buy back, Apple will have to go up to $190.80 for it "to be like" $182.50 back in January 2022. So $182.50 right now is a bit like a mirage. I reached this conclusion by looking at: if Apple buys back half of its stocks, and it is still at $182.50, that just means it went down in value (for the whole company as a whole). It has to be about $361 for it to be like before if Apple actually buys back half of its shares. The number $190.80 is reached by $182.50 x 3 / 2.869
by the way, how do you know > Number of outstanding shares 16.4 --> 15.8 billion due to buyback since then Is it by 10Q? By the way, I think it is due to (1) and (2), Number of outstanding shares 16.4 --> 15.8 billion
