Folks, I see bonus percent mentioned in some apple ict4 offers and not in others (referring to bonus %, not sign on bonus). Does it make any diff whether it is present in offer or not - i thought every ict4 would get a bonus percent yearly whether it is mentioned or not in offer. Secondly is this to be included in the tc calculation for initial offer ( as i see some using it in tc calculation while others making no mention of it in tc for initial year) In other words what is right tc calc from initial offer TC = base + rsu + sign on bonus + ( base x bonus % ) Or TC = base + rsu + sign on bonus Tc 345 Thanks
Thanks for response @smokering. So you are saying if the bonus percent is not mentioned in offer, you wouldn’t get the bonus at end of first year, so it makes a diff to first year TC but subsequent years TC, it doesn’t matter (as everyone would get the bonus for subsequent years?) Seems strange as why would one not get bonus at end of first year irrespective of present in offer or not? Just like refreshers ( which aren’t mentioned in offer), bonus is part of comp right so I would think one would get it irrespective of present in offer or not even at end of first year ( unless apple has a policy that first year you dont get year end bonus unless explicitly mentioned in offer as bonus percent)? Pls correct me if I am missing something. Thanks
I think you’re probably right that you will get a bonus, but there’s no harm in asking your recruiter why it isn’t in the offer. Unlike Google and other FAANG, orgs at Apple operate relatively independently so I wouldn’t make a blanket statement about how comp works at a company level
Thanks, makes sense.
Bonus and RSU depends on the performance rating. Offer letter might just say the same instead of giving a fixed number. Bonus is typically 10-20% depending on the org/rating. But say if you receive “needs improvement” in any category almost certainly you won’t receive any Bonus/RSU. Regarding first year bonus, it depends on when you’re joining, if you’ve been with the team for less than 3-4 months there is a good chance you won’t get bonus for that year. Anything over that, bonus might be prorated or sometimes you might not receive anything unless you stayed for almost the whole review cycle
Got it, thanks for the info. So looks like having the bonus percent in the offer provides some safety with regards to getting first year end bonus (provided everything else like performance etc is fine.)
Does Apple give you that specific number (10-20% ) in the offer? Or what does it say in the bonus part in a typical offer? I got an offer recently but it didn’t mention the number at all.. just says based on performance review..

It makes a difference insofar as that’s your offer and you don’t have much of a leg to stand on if they don’t give you a bonus at year end. I got an offer recently and it definitely stipulates a yearly bonus. Get them to change the offer if you haven’t signed it already Initial year TC includes sign on bonus and possibly a pro rata yearly bonus if you get one within the first year. Subsequent years include yearly bonus. Just calculate TC based on what you expect to make in that year. Any other TC calculation is dumb
