Apple call option is expiring next week. Do I need to execute the option or let it expire to claim loss on tax?

Agreed, this is my first time buying. I want to buy certain quantity of stocks and short of money so I brought this call option year ago and market is down This option is worthless. No regrets as I can buy stocks at much cheaper rate

It’s ok to not know, the concepts of playing with options takes some practical experience too apart from reading about them. Play with small amounts though until you really understand how they work.
If you're asking this question, you have no business trading options. If it's going to expire worthless, you have no action to take. It will show up in your brokerage tax statement.
