Apple interview

An Apple recruiter hit me up for a role in an area I don’t have direct experience with. I told her I didn’t have this experience, but she still insisted to do a phone call. We spoke and she later gave my resume to the hiring manager. They want to do a phone screen, I guess they feel I have enough experience in related areas? I’m torn, I don’t want to have a bad interview on my record with them, and feel I would be better fit in a different role. Should I turn this down and tell her to try me on other roles instead? I fear I might miss out on an interview in the near future. I’m currently looking so it would be very nice to jump ship to Apple.

Apple doesn’t have any rule that you cannot re interview for 6 m or 1 y if you don’t do well. One team does not care about how you did in other team interviews. You can confirm this with the recruiter.

I can confirm this too. I did 4 phone screens with 4 different teams within the past year

You should try it. I have seen people who didn’t think they had relevant experience but ended up getting offer and joining.

Go for it! I got a similar call about 3 months ago, told the recruiter that I don’t have the exact experience, but it didn’t matter. I studied hard and interviews were really difficult, but totally worth it! Best of luck :)
