Why take a paycut? Are you in hcol? Austin salaries are much lower than HCOL, unless you start in HCOL and then ask for transfer to Austin.

When you come from a no name company, apple shits on your face with their lowball offer which will sometimes be lower than your current TC from no name company. You can show middle finger and decline or take it for brand name hoping your espp, rsu refreshers, etc would fill the gap. Happened to me and I did the former.

What level is this? Also, why take a pay cut? Just tell the recruiter this is lower than current salary and you need x, y, z. Negotiate.

Always negotiate. Worse they can do is say no. Apple is not the type of company to withdraw an offer because you asked for more. It's FAANG and everyone expects negotiation that's why the first offer is always low.
