I have received an offer for SRE at Apple pay London ICT3 It looks like I was downlevelled, and I’m not sure what to think I have over 20 years of experience, but most as SWE, and only 2y as SRE-kind role, so maybe that is why Base: 92k GBP Bonus: 10% RSU: 94k USD Sign on bonus: 25k GBP Refresher: variable Relocation to London I tried to negotiate, the initial offer was 20k sign-on, they bumped it to 25k, but didn’t touch the base salary I’m also curious to hear the experience of people working at Apple, especially Apple Pay, how is the work, how easy it is to get promoted, how interesting the job is, how is the arrangement(hybrid/fully in office), etc I got a higer offer from another company, but Apple was always one the few companies that I’d love to work for #tech #apple
Apple uses its name to get the best talent in the world at a huge discount because you fools are so giddy about worrying at Apple that you will accept any sheety low ball offer they send you. Tell them what you want and why (list you years or experience, degrees, work ethic, and anything else to support you claim). Also, mention to them that they will be EXPECTING A LOT OF UNPAID OVERTIME so you need a salary high enough to make cover all the unpaid overtime they will be forcing you to do. Most people think of companies as essentially good and will take care of them ... they accept a low ball offer and then get screwed for 3, 4, 5, or 10 years before they realize they have been screwed by their company from the time they joined the company. Remember, before you join is the only time you have power to negotiate. After you join you are screwed. The only way to negotiate is to leave(submit your resignation). Right now the recruiter is desperate for you to start. Their performance is based on number of positions they fill. Just keep repeating I'm looking for X, Y, Z based on A,B,C. Even stronger if you can say you don't need to accept because you have a current job or you have another offer.
Promo from IC3 to IC4 is mostly tenure-based. Also levels aren’t as big of a deal at Apple vs other companies. There’s significant overlap between IC3 and IC4 in both scope and comp. 3 days/week in office is enforced as far as I’ve seen. I’m surprised they didn’t match your other offer tbh
Do you know if it is common to change teams or even relocate to other locations/countries at Apple?
It’s not common. There is no internal mobility. You need to do a full round of interviews the same as external candidates
Any reason why you didnt go for an SWE position at FAANG-ish companies if you had a lot of SWE exp? Do you only want to do SRE from now on?
Yes, I'm going more for SRE, when it also involves coding
