Have offers in hardware from Apple and Intel. TC about same for both. What's the better option, not chasing TC. Looking for good quality work, culture, friendly coworkers and WLB. PTO at Apple is only 12 days/yr for first 2 years! That seems really low. Intel is 15 days/yr plus 4 weeks sabbatical after 4 years! Apple recruitment process has been tedious. Should I attribute it just to recruitment or will work culture also be like that? Intel recruitment has been a breeze. I feel wanted and humane. No small talk, everything is transparent and laid out as-is. #hardware #semiconductor
Apple and Intel same tc ? Which location
FYI Apple will give you a week off for Thanksgiving and also another week off in between Christmas and New year. And these are on top of your 12 days PTO. Granted that these are discretionary and is not guaranteed but in the recent past they always had it. Not picking a side but wanted to make sure you are aware of it when counting Apple PTO days.
Thanks. Recruiter did mention this. All my friends at Apple have historically worked during these holidays. Do you know if the team requires it or whether working through is more a personal choice.
Interesting. I worked at Apple for 4 years until last year and never worked during those two periods in any of the years. But you know what though, I guess it depends. I can kinda see someone could be working if they are supporting factory and all that. But even in that case I know that they have policy to replace those days for future day off days, meaning they won’t be wasted. Working through it is definitely NOT a personal choice. Meaning even if you are required to work, you need VP approval. By default everyone needs to take off unless explicitly asked to support during those weeks.
Intel is sinking and is in financial troubles😅. You will get wlb, avg work, and low/no TC upgrades a few years down the line
I would tell Apple to have a competing offer that you don't.want to disclose. They may up 10-20%. If not,, you can always pick Intels offer. It would also nag me that you must have been lowballed from Apple it the TC is on par with an Intel offer.
Apple recruiter refuses to budge. Keeps asking for details as to why I'm asking a certain number.
I’m shocked that TCs are the same. I had Intel offer 2 years ago at nearly 50% lower so I stayed at . For WLB I’d have much rather gone to Intel.
Which group are you in at Apple? Yes, Intel offer is impressive.
Don’t come to INTEL. U will regret joining it may be not in few months but surely u will. When u keep holding depressed stock for year and always underperforming while all other flying high. Save ur self from self inflicted pain.
If both the offers are both in the same geo location like Austin, take Apple. If Intel is in a low cost geo and Apple offer is in a high cost geo, then go with your gut. Choose Intel for WLB. Intel has been a great place to work. Apple is faster paced compared to Intel from what I heard. You may or may not like it depending on your personality. I have a family member who works there now.
What is your role? And YoE ? How important is WLB ?
WLB is important. I don't wanna be working every single weekend etc. More importantly, I don't wanna be stressed about internal/team competition :). YoE 11.
It's.WLB.vs Stability. Goto apple for Stability (no layoff) , especially if you are on Visa. Intel will take many many years to make a comeback
