Well no, they aren’t cutting pay. They’d also be saving on income tax (about $20k if they make 300k TC) and CoL is about the same. Its actually a raise financially speaking. But if they want to stay in SD it should be easy enough to find a new job.
A terrible company does terrible things. With Apple’s aggressive RTO policy, this is their way of cutting workers down. At least they were kind enough to offer severance for when those employees leave, especially as this move effective uproots them and possibly leads to a downgrade in their salary to reflect the new location. Hopefully those workers find better companies that don’t throw them under the bus just to save money.
