TC is posted in poll below. Apple team is core product team -- customer facing feature work with tons of visible impact. Will the recurring TC grow over time with refreshers + bonus? Netflix team is okish work, kind of boring, but I'm a high performer and can see promotion to E4 fairly soon. Apple perks are terrible, no free food ($10 lunches), no gym, hard in person requirements, etc... Netflix more chill people are trusted to do whatever as long as the job gets done. Job doing something you think is cool or take the cold cash? What are y'all's thoughts? Comment why you voted what you voted! #engineering #software #swe #apple #career
This early in your career you should be chasing passion. If you’re not excited about the job at Netflix then switch.
Is it worth the paycut? I feel that way too, but isn't the ultimate goal just to make money and live your life? What am I going to get by chasing passion? Is there some long term vision I'm missing?
In the grand scheme of things, the money isn’t that far from each other. What will guide your career better is finding a technology you’re passionate about and developing expertise in that lane. Speaking as someone who was at Google but took a slightly lower paying position to work in a new industry.
Do not rely on TC growth at Apple. When I worked there I saw tons of coworkers get shafted when it comes to refreshers. Apple TC progression is quite unreliable.
Yes!
You’ll grow a lot at Apple in terms of launching and hyping things, and if you’re a core product team, every years WWDC and new HW launches are extremely exciting. I loved the excitement of Apple albeit the work load was high. Promo can be arbitrary, top performers are really top and you’ll notice them.
Apple does have a gym. A pretty nice one
That’s not free lol
Always choose Netflix, cause when you try to change next time you will get L+1 or even L+2. Netflix is on top of the Food chain, Apple is at the Bottom.
How do you know you’re a high performer with 0 YOE?
Cuz they are high when performing.
😂
These are new grad offers then?
They seem to have interned at Netflix
Customer facing work is helpful for future career. But sometimes things don’t work out - project unshipped, reorg, etc. If the TC was at least matching current comp it would make sense to take. I would negotiate.
