Hi Apple folks, Wanted to know your thoughts on this 30% cut apple chargers on all IOS transactions. From app owner perspective this is robbing. What do u guys think ?#apple #applecut30
I am ok with Apple taking a cut. Apple has to spend on the infra to make sure apps are secure and not doing something shady. I would rather trust just 1 company policing that rather than trust every single app that I need to download. Another reason Apple’s 30% cut is worth it because of fraudulent e purchases in games happens a lot. Only people playing mobile games a lot and spending a ton would understand. I used to play a few games where I would regularly spend money to get the new character or skill and sometimes things just wouldn’t be as advertised at all. All I had to do was log a ticket to Apple and they would instantly refund me the money back. It is exactly like credit card companies, they take a cut of every transaction from merchants and they protect the consumer.
This is BS. Apple already charges consumers for a product. Malicous apps etc. can be a flat fee and honestly it’s not going to be 15-30% of revenue. Imagine Google Chrome providing basic security and charging 15-30% of revenue. They basically want to fatten their margins. The basic premise for these fees could be referral fees, much like how Amazon charges to sell on its marketplace. But the difference between Amazon.com and an iPhone is that once a customer purchases an iPhone, he/she has no recourse to not get apps from the app store (hence the monopoly).
You completely ignored the example I provided and just stated your narrative. Which malicious apps are you talking about, provide example, getting malicious app listed on app store is not possible, because Apple makes sure of that and that costs money. I would rather have Apple handle my purchase and credit card info than some game developer from China or Russia. Apple makes sure of handling the payment rather than giving the credit card info to them, do you think that infra can be built and run for free? If a game sells you a character X claiming specific skills, but once you buy it, turns out it’s not the same as advertised, then Apple protects you and helps you getting your money back. The game developer from China might not even have customer support setup, how will you even deal with them. If your game account gets hacked, which happens all the time, and the hacker buys a lot of things in the game, then Apple protects you by getting your money back, small game developers don’t do shit in this case. Again, as I said, only hardcore mobile gamers would understand the importance, you clearly don’t seem to be one and just have strong opinions about things you don’t even know.
I am bamboozled!! This coming from someone in Qualcomm. What about the “No license No chip” model?
Hah I just want to know how u guys feeling and thoughts😂.
Personally 30% across the board seems a bit steep. I would prob do tiers based on revenue. Epic games can afford the 30% cut, but smaller organizations or individuals shouldn’t be as high.
30% is ridiculous. Both Apple and google are crooks. They should have an option for a flat monthly fee to cover the infra and shit, not take 30% of everything for doing close to nothing.
If you don’t want to pay the 30% fee then don’t the tap the market. Have you even heard of an equilibrium price?
So Microsoft should take a cut of all transactions that go through a windows os
Almost clear monopoly. Unreasonable to literally have their own competing product against those companies and take a 30% cut - Apple Music v. Spotify, Apple Arcade v. Fortnite etc. Third party developers can’t even mention that this extra fee is Apple Tax or you can sign up cheaper elsewhere. Apple takes 15% in perpetuity after first year meaning a third party dev can never expect to have the same margins on iOS as Apple. Google’s case is less pronounced since you can get away with the restrictions since 1. There are multiple app stores on Android 2. Google only charges if you use their Payment infra (I think..) Apple has it coming, but I’m sure their lawyers have been prepping for a loooooong time
This. Apple is not just operating a market place, but also competing against others in it, unfairly.
Google charges the same
