I currently work at AT&T as a senior software engineer. The work is stupidly easy and I can get away with about 10< hrs of work a week. While working there I have been able to get some traction on a marketplace startup I’ve been working on. We have about 20,000 users (2,000 DAU) who are buying about $140,000 in merchandise every month (and growing). I think it is going to be some time until it will be generating enough money to support me full time though as we are only taking a small cut of each transaction. (I own 15% of the company and am CTO) What I am trying to figure out is if I should stay at AT&T where I don’t have to work much or if I should try and switch to a more reputable Tech company (FAANG or similar) to benefit my long term career. And if I do start interviewing with FAANG companies should I tell them about the side project (as a resume booster) even if I plan to keep working on it if I got a job there? I’m having a tough time deciding what I should prioritize. Fuck AT&T but should my focus right now be the growing side project business or getting a job at FAANG, and if I should get a FAANG job should I tell them about the business? How are you a senior engineer with 2 years of experience?!
Even at google you’d be working 5-6h a day. You’d also have to be studying a lot. I’d say prioritize your startup.
You will have to work much harder/longer at any MANGA and will probably lose some energy/drive in your side project. I think you have a sweet situation and I would double down on the side hustle if you believe in it.
Are you seeking outside funding? What’s the startup? Feel free to DM if you don’t want to post publicly

What do the terms of your contract say about anything you create while under their employ, even if it’s not on company time? Any IP clauses to think about?
