Apply to intern or new grad roles @ trading firms?

Currently interning at a hedge fund in London doing SWE work and will be starting my master’s in CS afterwards at a top 5 UK university. New grad TC is ~120k but I want to try getting into a top tier prop shop/hedge fund after graduating as current place isn’t very well known. I’ve heard that internships are easier to get than new grad roles, but considering I would be a new grad in ~1 years time would my application even be considered compared to say a penultimate student? I’ve applied before to some places like Jane Street but didn’t even get an interview/OA due to just having Morgan Stanley I think.
