It's been a crazy long journey.... and i'm sure it's still just the early stages... I made the switch from a business major to engineering major..it was difficult...failed classes early on...grinded...started getting local internships...grinded....internships grew to full time job....grinded....led to other full time opportunities while I was still in college ( non target school ).... saw the potential and higher tc's via blind....grinded My journey as SWE Job 1: $15/hr Job 2: $17.50/hr Job 3: $12.00/hr promotion: $15.00/hr Job 4: $44,000/yr Job 5: $100,000/yr Job 6: ..... now just received an offer $193,000/yr Yoe: ~ 4 ~ 5 with internships if anyone is reading this early in on their career.. or feels like they're stuck.... listen.. a year is a long time, who knows what will happen next year, good things are comming... but don't stop grinding. If it wasn't for blind I may have been content and not looked elsewhere or seen the potential. Thank you blind! thank you for all the contributers, the posters, the readers, commentators, everyone on the platform. thank you!!
Well done to you mystery person of blind! You’ve really done well for yourself
Awesome bro, location?
Mountain West
Stop counting internships as YoE, my god
Agreed but Lol why so butthurt over this?
I don’t know about you, but my experience as an intern way back was identical to my experience as an fte. Not sure why you wouldn’t count that if you have some lengthy internships (I had two that totaled 1.5 years, for example)
I wonder what did you do before you officially become a SWE? I’m on the way to get there. How do you make the move? What did you do in job 4 and how long for each job?
Thank you for writing this. All the best in life. This is great. Thank you blind.
Congrats chhore , taane naam roshan kar di h
Nice name 😊
What did you do for job1 and job3?
Job 1 was sde test internship, job 3 was full stack swe. Started as intern at $12 the. Promotion was to full time non intern at $15
WTF, 15/hr in 2017? did you wash dish or something? you probably don't even have a CS degrees right? I have similar YOE but now people like this can make 2/3 of a top 20 CS school graduate makes?
It was an internship that turned full time. $15/hr as full stack dev. All those jobs listed are as swe. Alot of this was while working my way through school. Computer Engineering (half cs half electrical engineering)
Hiring bar must be really low these days. $200k offer from a company most people never heard of to someone with CE degree from non target school. Are people offered entry level SDE for writing hello world or two sum nowadays?
Congrats. But if you ever join AMZN and abuse ellipsis like that, that’s a PIP waiting to happen.
Or spell "coming" with two M's
Congrats! Good on you for persevering. YOE?
updated. ~4 ~5 with internships
