this is my first time working with a 3rd party recruiter that placed me into a company's interview process (the recruiter is not employed by the company). I have my on site lined up soon, and he's asking questions about TC expectations etc. obviously he wants to make sure there's a fit, but I'm worried telling the recruiter too much may lower my offer from the company. recruiter's are paid commission based on my 1st year salary, right? so his incentives should be aligned with getting me the highest TC possible? or are there cases where telling the recruiter too much might screw my offer? current TC: 135
3rd party recruiter want to get the highest offer possible- typically before they even send it to you they negotiate it up or they send you off 5k higher than your range. The money you make, the more the fee costs, the more the commission the make, the more incentives they get to attend, etc. you get the point but yeah 3rd party will always try and get you higher for margins of error

Neither, themselves only. Get any hire done, as long as the hire stays for few months and they get their cut. Doesn’t matter if it is a good fit or not. Think of them as used car salesmen. First party recruiters tend to be better as they are there on the longer term. Avoid Third party recruiters.
