Are certifications worth it?

For example, AWS/GCP/Azure certifications, coursera machine learning certifications, Linux foundation certifications including certified Kubernetes administrator, etc. I think it’ll be useful for me to study for these, for career growth, but some cost a lot. If I take a bunch, am I helping my career or am I getting tricked? I’m especially curious whether anyone who’s gotten certifications has opinions on whether these have helped them get opportunities. For non-SWEs, certifications are very beneficial for infra engineer roles like systems engineer, network engineer, cloud engineer, devops, SRE, etc. but mainly for entry/early mid-level.

Certifications are needed to prove you have a skill if you don’t have relevant experience with the skill. But if you already have experience to show for, they are useless.
