Hi all, I am waiting for an official offer from Argo, but given the current market situation and all the recession talks, I start to doubt if I should make the move. Because at the end of the day, if there is a layoff, new members are always first on the chopping block... My research so far doesn't give me too much useful info, so I would appreciate it if someone could provide some insights and outlook on this company (or autonomous vehicle industry as a whole) I understand it will be my decision to make (or risk to take), but I hope the decision is an educated one. Thanks in advance. #argoai #tech #insight #outlook
Their recent equity sale to Lyft for the data is giving them an edge over its competitors. They have plenty of funding to absorb the recession shock. People are also talented as they are paying relatively higher than other companies. I think you should be safe.
Would you mind elaborating more on what the equity sale for data was all about and how would that help Argo against it's competitors?
Isn't it backed by Ford? Should be very well funded.
Argo Fuck you.
Also curious about general outlook for Argo. Good they’re still hiring with good offers, what’s the runway like though?
Curious who will answer this
We have runway for a couple of years. We are also going to raise a round this year. Should have happened by now, but due to the market conditions our potential investors understandably are wanting a sweeter deal causing the delay.
I had a good offer from them about 4 months ago, but they priced the RSUs at a value of about $20 billion when their last round at that time valued it at $12 billion. If their value was correct, they beat my Roblox and Meta offers Since refreshers take like 2.5 years, money was paper, and I didn't like their valuation, I passed. But they have a good strategy, solid backing, and good technology.
I am also going through similar decision. I have their offer and Aurora offer. While Argo seems better in tech based on their driverless testing in 2 cities, their offer is at 20b valuation while Aurora offer is at their current ~3b valuation, I am more inclined towards Aurora in my case.
How different were the base salaries? Take Argo stock and divide value by 4 to compare, I'd say.
Base are similar. Equity is also almost same but then as you said if you divide Argo’s by 4, there is huge gap.
Discount the equity grant value by 50% (@ $10B) and calculate the TC. If it comes close to your other offers then you could take it, I guess. We want a ton of more people, so I don’t think there will be any layoffs for sure.
Do you know approx when will they IPO ?
It would be crazy to IPO in this market. So, I guess no IPO plans for the next 2 years. But that’s just my opinion….
I am in similar situation. I have an offer from lucid and Argo AI. I am inclined towards Argo, with joining date for Argo is around end of July. Is there a possibility for round of layoff at Argo?
Lucid will do layoffs way before Argo
I just accepted one from Argo and I’m taking a 3 month break before starting. Lucid is a soul crushing company. I beg you not to join.
Hey, even I'm waiting for my offer letter. My recruiter said they'll have an update after 4th July. DM
I would recommend against it. Tough time to join them. Consider again in 2-3 years. Not now.
