As your TC got higher, did you care about material objects LESS?

example: after a while... a car is just a car etc... I get no additional happiness driving a Tesla than I did a civic after the first month. Sure its cool but quickly became the new norm. Actually dont care for it much, maybe im depressed idk. I also watch TechLead videos and hes a FANG millionaire and lives pretty reserved/minimal still. Even before all the family issues.

Personality unchanged I think, but much less time to buy things

Once I have everything I need I won't care anymore

TechLead is that you brah?

Northrop Grumman GGNOREzzz OP Jan 16, 2020

Haha check out Algopro and use code “techlead” for the first month free.

😂. To answer OP, I don’t care about material things. My biggest issue is the length of commute even though I use a company provided bus. I wouldn’t know what to do with a Tesla to be honest. I derive my happiness seeing my family smile after a long commute back home

I didn’t need high tc to realize buying status symbols brings little to no fulfillment

Sonder tciD38 Jan 16, 2020

there is an upper boundary to happiness from TC. up to a certain point it is about having vs not having. in this range more TC will definitely make you happier. then there is the range where you have most things most people can reasonably own and it's no longer about having vs not having but only about how big your TV is or how shiny your car is. in this range more TC only makes a marginal difference. most people never make it past this range. then there is the unlimited $ range. I'm talking private island and jet. no idea if that makes you any happier, never been there.

Yeah man minimalism is the hot new trend for tech bros. If you’re depressed you should wake up at 4 AM to take a cold shower and meditate and write about your TC in a gratitude journal

Cold shower does help for some reason.. I guess adrenaline. But it’s cold 🥶 lol

On a serious note as my TC increased I still cared the same amount about buying nice new things, particularly clothes, but my desire to have more new experiences increased. Started traveling more, going to more music festivals, trying fancier restaurants, etc. But that’s just me.

It’s more an age thing than an income thing.

Yes, you are depressed. Sure, a car is just a car. But a civic is not a Tesla, you need to admit and appreciate the difference.

I’m more material than ever

I'd take a Civic Type R over a Tesla

Northrop Grumman GGNOREzzz OP Jan 16, 2020

That car looks a little bit ricer... I’m sure it’s reliable and built better but jeez lol

Amazon 10xngneer Jan 16, 2020

Exactly. Who cares how it looks. It just gotta be a hell lof of fun to toss around ;)
