Asking Manager to work remotely bad idea?

I was wanting to move out of Nashville and to NYC to do other side work that pertains to my career-career. I’m a Digital Designer among other stuff. Right now I’m in office work and my job can be done any time and always make sure it gets done. I was wanting to work remote in NYC so I can be closer to friends and other side work. Only downfall is, I only been with the company for 8 months. We have agents working in NYC too. I also want to work on a new tool for the company that could improve customer satisfaction rate in other departments. We have other team members working remotely outside the state but they been here for years. Thoughts? #workremote #remotework #remote #office

The answer is no if you never ask.

This 100%. They can only say no or yes....you're not likely to get fired just for asking, so what's the harm?

Your decision to make. But when you work remotely you lose your own lobby as you are your lobby. Many people would tell you working remotely is not a good idea but of course it all depends on circumstances and how much you are needed and valued

Working remotely is easy for me since I only have a team that work with and they’re out of the country. I have a project that I want to propose to my manager that could improve experience with our customers.

I don’t think remote work is good for long term career growth but if you want to do it then asking is not an issue
