Hi! Recently I joined Atlassian over Coinbase but feel like I made a mistake because it may hinder my future opportunities. Thoughts? This is for North America TC: 240k CAD #Coinbase #Atlassian
Amazon + either of those two is good. If there are differences they’d be too marginal and only stupid mofos would care about. Hopefully you’re on a good team at atlassian. People say eng rigor and career growth is better at Coinbase but that’ll depend on the team there too. GF was on a shitty team at Coinbase
I’m an MLE interested in recommenders and personalization and search … so for me TikTok technically must have a lot more interesting problems to solve. Prestige wise I don’t think it’s that different … go where you’ll get a better team and learn skills that align with your career goals.
TC?

Doesn’t matter. Coinbase could have been worse , who knows ? I would say the current market is the main culprit making employers exploit employees.
OP, can you share more about why you think you made a mistake choosing Atlassian over coinbase? I’m in a similar situation and thinking hard to choose between Atlassian and CB..
For context: I have 3 YOE, so pretty early on career and willing to grind a bit Coinbase pros I’ve thought of since joining Atlassian (3 days ago) - Tech seems more advanced (They use Go for everything while Atlassian is still Java) - Talent seems a bit better (lots of young folks from Top N US universities) - Crypto seems to be picking up again On the other hand the reasons why I chose Atlassian: - Team was promised to be 0-1 ground up product (this is true as I’m literally the only engineer on the team right now as they build the team up). I report to a director but he’s looking to fill a manager HC - my manager chain is ex-meta/uber and all joined within a year - WFH balance is unmatched (40 days PTO, 10 days sick, 5 days “volunteer”) - Refreshers (Atlassian gave me 190/4 with target of 25% of grant refresher per year vested over next 4) - 15% cash bonus with multiplier if GE or EE I was conflicted too as the offers were literally 1:1. I have friends from coinbase and they’re definitely working a lot. I eventually want to join back into big tech so I’m just a bit worried this transition might affect that
Rajeev the CTO of Atlassian is also an ex-Meta engineering VP, so I have hopes that he’s trying to pivot Atlassian into a top N tech talent company
Lots of crypto haters out there Probably a toss up
Which job do you enjoy the day to day work more? One pro for Atlassian, there’s more room for lateral movement over time, more products you can work on. One con, we’re going through a lot of changes right now so at times there’s a lot of ambiguity. What country are you located in that has 40 days of PTO btw?
Canada. I know US has unlimited PTO
Wow, I didn’t realize y’all had 40 days. That’s amazing.
Do you mind sharing what's level at Atlassian and Coinbase? Are they both senior level?
P40 and ic4. Both intermediate
Coinbase talent is surprisingly high.
